Tips for Searching for AR Books

Step 1: Click on the link to your school's AR lists.

Step 2: Look at the leveled list and try to find an interesting title within your child’s range. Read across the page to the author’s last name.

Step 3: Once you have a title, you need to use the library's catalog to check the location and availability of the book.

Step 4: If the book is a fiction book (a story—no facts), the call number will be J-F + Author’s last name. They are on the shelf in alphabetical order.

Example: Old Yeller, call number is J-F Gipson

Step 5: If it is a non-fiction book (facts and information), it is on the shelf in number order with the author’s last name following.

Example: Tunjur! Tunjur! Tunjur!, call number J 398.2 Mac

Step 6: For non-fiction books, the call number must be obtained through the catalog. Availability and location of the book is also part of the catalog information.
