Tuscaloosa County residents:
There is no charge for a library card, but you must present a picture ID and proof of your current local address (driver’s license, phone bill, etc.). Please note: we do not accept a PO Box as a primary address, but it may be included as a secondary address. Children must be present to be issued a library card.
Courtesy Card:
Individuals living in temporary residences in Tuscaloosa County (e.g. Hannah Home, Salvation Army, VA hospital) may get a Courtesy Card with a picture ID and a signed letter from an administrator at the institution where they are living. Courtesy Cards are valid for 3 months. At the end of this time period, the patron will need to show proof of a permanent residence, or bring another letter from the institution that is providing their housing. The Courtesy Card entitles the patron to full computer privileges, access to the Library’s online resources, and the ability to borrow up to 3 books, 2 DVDs and 2 music CDs.
College students:
If you live off campus and have proof of local address, there is no charge for a card. You must present a picture ID and proof of your current local address (driver’s license, phone bill, etc.)
On campus students may get a card for free by showing a picture ID with their permanent address and a student ID from an area college.
Residents of other counties:
There is a $30 annual non-refundable fee for a library card. You must present a picture ID and proof of your current local address (driver’s license, phone bill, etc.). Please note: we do not accept a PO Box as a primary address, but it may be included as a secondary address. Children must be present to be issued a library card.
* PLEASE NOTE: Due to library closing procedures, we typically do not begin the process of making a new library card 15 minutes prior to closing.
