About TPL Local History & Genealogy
Our Local History and Genealogy materials are housed on the second floor of the Main Library. While our collection focuses on the rich history of Tuscaloosa County, we have a wealth of resources detailing the history of the state of Alabama, and the Southern Region of the United States.
We are the repository for the Tuscaloosa News, microfilm copies are available as well as the last 50 years in bound journals. Two microfilm readers and one digital microfilm reader are available for public use. Feel free to ask at the Reference desk for assistance with the the microfilm and microfilm readers.
We provide access to Ancestry Library Edition (only available onsite). Different from a personal subscription, Ancestry Library Edition gives access to genealogical records of individuals from North America, the UK, Europe, Australia, and more. Making available sources like censuses, vital records, immigration records, family histories, military records, court and legal documents, directories, photos, maps, and more.
Services
We offer limited personal research for out-of-town genealogists who have specific research needs and will fulfill 5 obituary requests within a 30 day period.
Fees:
No charge if 20 pages or less
Over 20 pages, $1.00 + $0.10 per page
No charge for scanned images
