The Friends of the Library works to make the Tuscaloosa Public Library a resource for the enrichment and enlightenment of our community.

The primary project of the Friends of the Library is the Bookstore.  What began as a once-a-month garage sale of donated books has grown into an impressive, well stocked, well-organized bookstore offering an ever-changing assortment of books (including children’s books), magazines, CDs, DVDs, records and more.  For the last several years the Friends of the Library has contributed over $80,000 annually to the Library.

The bookstore is located on the left back corner of the Tuscaloosa Public Library on Jack Warner Parkway.  There is no access to the bookstore from inside the Library.

The bookstore’s all-volunteer staff receives donations from individuals and estates and sells them to the public, most books for $1, $2 or $3.  The spacious bookstore has evolved into Tuscaloosa’s best source for recycling great books, magazines and other media.

Volunteers

The bookstore is staffed entirely by volunteers.  If you like books and like to talk to people who like books, we may have a job for you.  In general, the time commitment is two hours per month.  When in the bookstore, leave you name and phone number with the volunteer at the desk and the Volunteer Coordinator will contact you.

The Bookstore Manager is always looking for volunteers to help sort and shelve new donations.  Let the person working at the desk know if you are interested.

The Friends of the Library is governed by an elected board of directors.
