Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that allows you access to books not available in the Tuscaloosa Public Library system. We borrow these items for you from other libraries with which we have borrowing agreements at no cost to you.

  1. Place book request with TPL.
  2. TPL requests book from lending library.
  3. Lending library sends book to TPL.
  4. Book checked out to you!
  1. Up-to-date library card: no fines or overdue items on your account
  2. Patrons are limited to 3 active requests, including items checked out or in process. Once checked out, these items count as part of your checkout limit.
  1. Publication date of the item requested must be more than a year old. TPL does not request new materials.
  2. TPL does not request audiovisual materials (audiobooks, music CDs, DVDs, etc.)
  3. TPL does not request children’s materials, graphic novels, and certain young adult materials.
  • Most requests are filled within a month. However, it may take longer for certain items, and some items may be unavailable. A staff member will notify you by email or telephone call when the item arrives.
  • Books are picked up and returned at the Main Library second-floor Reference Desk or the Weaver Bolden Branch main desk. ILL books should not be placed in the book drop at any location.
  • Loan periods vary depending on the lending library. Please contact the library at least two days before your due date if you would like to request a renewal.
